This decadent six-ingredient chicken Florentine pizza is made in a slow cooker, so it’s impossible to burn or undercook. Ten minutes of prep. Ready in two hours.

If you haven’t had much practice, making homemade pizza might seem a little daunting and time-consuming. What if you scorch it, undercook it, or don’t stretch out the pizza dough enough? With this chicken Florentine pizza recipe, you don’t have to worry about any of that.

This method is simple and foolproof, requires only ten minutes of prep time, and calls for just six ingredients. The most exciting thing about this pizza, though? It’s made in a slow cooker.

Yes, you really can make a delicious pizza in a slow cooker instead of an oven—and it turns out no less creamy, delicious, or perfectly cooked and round than if you were to make it the traditional way! No pizza pan is needed. No need to preheat the oven, especially on a hot day. Plus, this pizza may turn out even better as certain ovens can be a bit temperamental.

The X Factor in This Chicken Florentine Pizza

Another unique feature of this recipe that will save you time and clean up is the ingredient you’re going to use for the sauce. You would typically make a traditional chicken Florentine pizza with a cream-based white sauce, like béchamel, or a white wine and garlic sauce. For this recipe, we’re using an unusual but delicious hack: spinach and artichoke dip.

Using spinach and artichoke dip for the sauce works really well for a few reasons. It provides spinach and garlic, which are two key ingredients in chicken Florentine. As a cream-based dip, it also offers the required richness of a classic white pizza sauce. The artichoke gives a subtle hit of extra flavor, as a bonus.

Aside from the spinach and artichoke dip, the other toppings you’ll need for your chicken Florentine pizza are mozzarella cheese, artichoke hearts, cooked and shredded chicken breast, diced tomatoes, and fresh spinach for garnishing. These are my recommendations, but you can also make this recipe your own.

Ways You Can Modify This Recipe

Chicken Florentine pizza in a slow cooker liner

You could use a cup grated parmesan cheese, ricotta cheese, or feta in addition to or instead of the mozzarella. You may also prefer sun-dried tomatoes instead of fresh ones or want to add extra flavor with Italian seasoning or garlic powder.

This recipe uses all-purpose flour packaged Pillsbury™ Classic Pizza Crust, saving time and hassle. You’ll be making a half-inch pizza with a slightly thicker edge. If you want a thin crust, you can use Pillsbury Thin and Crispy Pizza Crust Dough.

You could also use a whole wheat packaged pizza crust if your nearest grocery store has it, but make sure not to use prebaked pizza crust in your slow cooker.

As far as the rest of the prep goes, all you have to do is line the slow cooker with food-grade plastic liner, which you can get on Amazon, spray it with olive oil (or another type of oil spray), lay down your all-purpose flour pizza crust dough, spread on the spinach dip and toppings, and come back in two hours when your chicken Florentine pizza is ready to serve. How amazing does that sound? Perfect for a lazy weekend afternoon appetizer. Let’s get cooking.

Description

This decadent six-ingredient chicken Florentine pizza is made in a slow cooker. Ten minutes of prep. Ready in two hours.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 (13.8-ounce) package Pillsbury Classic Pizza Crust
  • 3/4 cup spinach artichoke dip
  • 1 cup cooked chicken, shredded
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1/3 cup artichoke hearts, quartered
  • Diced tomatoes and baby spinach or basil leaves for garnishing
  • 1 slow cooker liner

Instructions

  1. Place 1 slow cooker liner in a 6-quart slow cooker. Brush the bottom and side (2 inches up) with oil. (This will help make the crust crispy. If you are not using a slow cooker liner, make sure you grease the bottom and side of your slow cooker generously.)
  2. Open the pizza crust package and roll out the crust on a cutting board. Cut off the corners.
  3. Place the crust in the lined and greased slow cooker. Let at least 1 inch of crust climb up the side.
  4. Use a fork to poke holes in the crust.
  5. Spread spinach artichoke dip on the crust, followed by chicken, cheese, and artichoke hearts.
  6. Cover the inner lid with a paper towel to prevent condensation from dripping onto the pizza.
  7. Cook on high for 2 hours. Take the pizza out by lifting the liner with both hands (wear an oven mitt). Garnish with diced tomatoes and baby spinach leaves. Cut it up and enjoy.
