Description

Make juicy ginger beef skewers with a sweet-savory marinade of tamari, garlic, and fresh ginger. Ready in 20 minutes — perfect for your next grill night.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1.5 pounds (680 grams) top round steak, cut thin
  • 2 green onions, sliced, to serve
  • 4 tablespoons cilantro, to serve
  • 1 red chili pepper, thinly sliced, to serve
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds, to serve

For the beef marinade:

  • 2 tablespoons coconut sugar
  • 1/4 cup tamari sauce or soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup rice wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Beef: In a large bowl, mix coconut sugar, tamari sauce, rice wine vinegar, olive oil, garlic, ginger, salt, and pepper. Add the steak and toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  2. Prepare the Skewers: If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 20 minutes before assembling.
  3. Grill the Beef Skewers: Preheat a gas grill to medium-high heat (around 400°F/200°C to 450°F/230°C). Thread the marinated beef onto the skewers. Grill the beef skewers for 3 minutes per side, or until cooked through.
  4. Serve: Serve the skewers immediately, garnished with green onions, cilantro, chili pepper, sesame seeds, and any leftover marinade as a dipping sauce.

Notes

  • You can also put the skewers under a broiler with medium-high heat, and broil them for 3 minutes on each side.
